Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal

20 March – 5 April 2010

We are appealing to the public to help us raise £100,000 to make the Ideal Homes for Heroes – your donation could change a wounded or former soldier’s life for the better.

We have teamed up with the Ideal Home Show who are supporting The Soldiers’ Charity by launching the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal.

50p from the sale of every ticket to the Ideal Home Show 2010 will go into the Appeal.

The money raised will make a real difference to the lives of soldiers, former soldiers and their families in need providing help such as wheelchairs and home adaptations for a wounded soldier or older veteran and rent deposits for the homeless.

The Charity currently has a 30% increase in calls for help and we depend completely on donations to meet this demand.

The success of this appeal will help us continue to ensure that no call for help goes unanswered.

We were also delighted to help John Tankard from the Royal Corps of Transport, who was badly injured in an accident in Northern Ireland.

The Ideal Home Show 2010

The Ideal Home Show, Britain’s most loved homes event is returning for its 102nd year this March. Building on its traditional values, this year’s show will revisit a post WW1 concept where the show hosted a competition for ideal (Workers) Homes. This theme could not have been more popular, since the Housing Act of 1919 had promised ‘homes fit for heroes’ to reward soldiers, munitions workers and their families with better standards of living.

Today, working in partnership with The Soldiers’ Charity, the Ideal Home Show is supporting our troops once again.

The Ideal Home Show Director Lee Newton said:

“The Ideal Home Show has always been a British institution going back to before WW1. The show has always worked closely with the Armed Forces and its servicemen and women, actively seeking initiatives that make a difference to the lives of our heroes.”

“We are extremely pleased to be able to give our backing to this scheme.”

The Ideal Home Show opens on the 20 March and runs until 5 April 2010.

22 March is a dedicated Troops Day, which sees the launch of the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal and a celebration of our Troops through a series of activities from military shows, displays, a British Street Party and bands, to mark the start of this appeal at the 17 day event.
