John Tankard Royal Logistics Corps
John served as a soldier for 27 years, achieving the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major in the Royal Corps of Transport. Whilst on an operational tour in Northern Ireland, he was badly injured in a road traffic accident and spent four and a half months recovering in hospital.
As a result of the accident, he suffered from a back disability which led to long term mobility problems. A grant was awarded so a level access shower for his home could be fitted; this has made a significant difference to his personal, as well as his overall quality of life.
