Leeds duo's lung-bursting 12 day challenge for charity

7 April 2010

Two tough men from Yorkshire are undertaking a massive challenge in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. Not content with travelling from Lands End to John O’ Groats, Dave Edwards and Andy North will travel through the UK by completing 12 marathons and a dozen 60-mile bike rides in 12 successive days.

And as they travel across the country, they’re asking you to join them as they raise money for soldiers, former soldiers and their families.

Dave, a 51-year-old chef from Calverley, said: “We’re simply saying to Yorkshire folk that we would like them to join us for a short or long section of our route.

“We’re asking them to share some of their time with us and remember any hardship or pain on the day is raising funds to support real heroes. Equally, if people could help with collections around their area as we pass through or help in other ways with fundraising, that would be superb too.”

Andy, a 49-year-old catering director from Guiseley, said: “Our motivation has been building after seeing the increasing number of lives devastated by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each day we plan to run a marathon distance in the morning and (then do a] 60-mile session on the bike during the afternoon and early evening.

“We have run marathons before but are not true athletes, so this really raises the bar.”
