On the Freedom Trail

Best of luck to Charles Wilson and his daughter Morag Burnard who are currently hiking Le Chemin de la Liberté (The Freedom Trail) through the Pyrenees this week

Not for the faint-hearted, this infamous evasion line commemorates one of the several secret escape routes over the central Pyrenees into northern Spain during the Second World War. A route taken not only by hundreds of Frenchmen and Jews fleeing from their German oppressors, but also by many R.A.F. and American airmen who had either crash-landed or parachuted to safety after being shot down over Nazi-occupied Europe.

By walking the trail Charles and Morag are truly bringing history to life and are raising much needed funds fro ABF The Soldiers’ Charity who continues to support former soldiers who served in the World War II era.
