Fearless Andy Leads Charity Skydivers
1 August 2010
On 30 July scores of big-hearted adrenaline seekers took the unforgettable leap of a lifetime in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. Our first ever charity jump day at Netheravon Airfield was an incredible success with sixty fundraisers doing a tandem jump with the renowned Tigers Parachute Display Team from The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment.
Joining this crazy group of supporters was the fearless Corporal Andy Reid from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment. Andy lost both his legs and his right arm in an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan last October.
But despite these horrific injuries he leapt from a plane at 13,000 feet to raise awareness for our charity, which helped refit his home after his accident to make it accessible for wheelchair use. After the jump Andy told us:
“I just want to prove to people and other soldiers that just because you’re injured it doesn’t stop you having a normal life doing things. Whatever you want to do you can still carry on and do it.”
A huge well done to all of our skydivers and a special shout out to the 43 soldiers from 11 Signals Regiment who helped make this a day to remember!
Below is a selection of photos from jump day which has already raised over £12,000 which will enable the charity to provide grants to 15 soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.
Our next charity jump day is 1 October but there are only a few places remaining so hurry and register now
