Patty Wallis, project manager for Red, White & Blue Day comments: “We had such fantastic entries that it was tough to shortlist them. All the judge’s felt that Evie’s really captured the spirit of what life might have been like for someone who was conscripted in to the Army during World War One. We are really grateful to Coombeshead Academy for their support of Red, White & Blue Day and for getting involved in the competition.

Evie from Coombeshead Academy added: “I feel very honoured to have been chosen to win.  I feel that it is extremely important to remember those who sacrificed their lives in the First World War and children continue to be educated on it.  Whilst creating my postcard, I often though back to one of my favourite books and films ‘Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo which we watched in my history class”.

Evie’s prize was presented to her by Colonel (Ret’d) Robert Jordan, Regional Director for the South West, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
