Barney Gillespie

Phillip “Barney” Gillespie, a former soldier in the Royal Irish Regiment, will be joining Charles Sincock and the Race2Recovery team in the Tuareg Rallye in Morocco, which takes place between March 5th and March 12th 2016.

Barney, who lost his leg to an IED in Afghanistan in 2010, became the first amputee in history to complete the Dakar Rally in a car when he was the co-driver in the 2013 race. Barney will be navigating the Tuareg Rallye in the Pro Car class alongside former Irish Guard Charles Sincock.

Barney is not one to let his injury hold him back, he has completed the Five Peak Challenge, climbing the UK and Ireland’s five highest mountains whilst wearing his prosthetic leg, to raise money for The Soldiers’ Charity. He currently works as an adventure training instructor at an outdoor activity centre in Northern Ireland.
