The Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel, a place of remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Falklands War of 1982, has been given a grant from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity that will go towards the provision of pastoral and welfare care.

The Chapel, which is in Pangbourne in Berkshire, provides a place of comfort and worship for those left behind from the Falkland War, particularly for those families whose loved ones came to rest in the waters around the Islands and those veterans who lost comrades.

Major General Jeff Mason, Chairman of the Trustees comments: “The Trustees of the Memorial Chapel are hugely grateful to The Soldiers’ Charity which has provided a generous grant to help continue their pastoral and welfare remit. It will help towards the cost of always having someone available to provide pastoral support and advice throughout each year, or to arrange financial assistance for veterans and families to access the Chapel events and facilities when needed by providing travel and accommodation allowances.”

The grant will also help towards the cost of the annual colour newsletter  which is the Chapel’s main information vehicle issued to over 2,300 veterans, families and supporters for news of forthcoming services and events and an archive of past happenings and comment. It will cover the cost of providing food and refreshment for the Annual June Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving of those who lost their lives in the Falklands in 1982. This is a gathering of up to 600 veterans, veterans reunion groups, families and serving personnel on the Sunday nearest 14th June, Liberation Day.”
